Queen’s Park- “You voted for jobs; you voted for growth. Thank you for voting to build Ontario up,” Kathleen Wynne told her followers last Thursday night. She was speaking as the province’s first elected female premier. And they were celebrating their election victory, surprised at the fact that they had gained an absolute majority of parliamentary seats.

“I’m very eager,” Wynne told reporters Friday outside her office, after meeting with Lt. Gov. David Onley to set the legislature ‘s return for July 2 with a new cabinet from a Liberal caucus that is ten members larger.

Meanwhile, apart from the three re-elected Liberal MPP’s of Caribbean roots, Michael Couteau of Don Valley-East, Bas Balkissoon of Rough- River and Agincourt and Mitzie Hunter of Scarborough-Guildwood, there are two newly minted MPP’s: Halton’s Indira Naidoo-Harris and Durham Region’s Granville Anderson.

Anderson, the owner and principal mediator of Anderson Mediation and Conflict Management noted “We worked hard and had confidence and day after day we believed this was possible. Now the work begins for Durham Region. And I’m going to work harder than ever. I’m going to work hard to make this one of the best communities. I am going to start fighting for that now.”

Anderson won with 19,808 votes – 36.4 per cent.

According to the former School Board trustee, who had served as Chair and earlier as Vice–Chair, “I did promise a GO train to Bowmanville. I am going to start fighting for that now.”

He spoke of investment in our education system, of a continued effort to make it one of the greatest in the world; strengthening our healthcare system and ensuring that care can be received in an efficient and effective manner; and creating sustainable and well-paying jobs for local residents.

“Congrats! Looking forward to great representation from you,” Enez Perkins penned on Facebook.
