Female poets speak out for less fortunate

A number of female poets hope to raise money to benefit the Fistula Foundation which funds repair surgeries to women in developing countries that have been affected by obstetric fistulas.

They will present their soulful poems when spoken word artist, published writer and small business owner Lamoi Simmonds of Our Love is Reckless brings the art-form to Brampton.

The lineup of poets are Lamoi, Alyestal Hamilton, Juanita Stephen and Breanna Chanelle, accompanied by emerging vocalist Dijah Janee and DJ Afroditee.

Raw. Poetry. Soul: The Queens’ Edition will be held at Knuferno Creative Arts and Fitness Studio, 20 Automatic Rd., on Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. when organizers hope to inspire, move and create change.

Part of the proceeds will benefit the Fistula Foundation.

Raw. Poetry. Soul accomplishes Lamoi’s mandate through Our Love is Reckless, giving new voices a stage, highlighting small businesses and raising funds and awareness.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door, available at eventbrite.ca.
