King and queen of carnival to be crowned at Lamport Stadium

Extravagant costumes and talented masqueraders will be in the spotlight at the Peeks Toronto Caribbean Carnival King and Queen Showcase tomorrow night.

The event at Allan Lamport Stadium in Toronto’s Liberty Village will present the creative works of masqueraders, designers and engineers of the authentic costumes that are recognized worldwide, says a news release from Peeks Toronto Caribbean Carnival.

The 2018 King and Queen of the Carnival  will be crowned at the Showcase.

“This event is one of the most anticipated each year during our four-week celebration,” notes Denise Herrera Jackson, CEO of the Festival Management Committee.

“Our talented male and female masqueraders will showcase the work of exceptional artists, designers and costume engineers who are all a significant part of the festival.”

The Kings, Queens and individuals of each Carnival band, produced by the Toronto Mas’ Band Associations will reveal their costumes, many of which have been in the works since last year’s festival came to a close

The Ontario Science Centre will present the Innovation in mas’ award at the showcase to recognize costumes with immaculate attention to detail, design, construction and engineering, along with the best uses of environmentally-friendly materials.

The King & Queen Showcase will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight.
