Marci Ien was sworn in last Wednesday as the Member of Parliament for Toronto Centre.

In a byelection held on October 26 last, Ien hung on to the Toronto Centre  seat for the Liberals, capturing 42 per cent of the votes..

Finance minister Bill Morneau resigned as Toronto Centre’s MP on August 21 last.

Ien who was born to immigrant parents from Trinidad, said in an interview after she was elected, that as an MP, she plans to focus a great deal of attention on the problems of homelessness and mental health issues.

Ien was a broadcast journalist for CTV.  She co-hosted the CTV daytime talk show,The Social.
