The widely acclaimed Trinidadian parandera Sharlene Flores returns to Toronto to serenade parang lovers with some of her finest classic numbers at the Estate Banquet and Event Centre on Nugget Avenue in Scarborough on Saturday.
She will be appearing at the twelfth annual “Parang Parang” show at which Los Amigos, Maestre and Friends, Los Pajaros and Connector, Toronto’s 2016 calypso monarch, will be performing.
Flores has been the recipient of many accolades and local and international awards such as the NAFITA for her rendition of “Bendita tu Eres” and the “Su la Trinite” medal from the eastern Caribbean island of Martinique.
In 1995, she crossed over into the calypso arena with “Hurricane”, a composition played by Trinidad steelbands. She has since recorded several calypsoes.
“Flores is. of course, no stranger to Toronto as she has performed on many occasion in this city and her many fans are looking forward to her appearance on Saturday. She is returning by popular demand, said Fabien Torres, organizer of “Parang, Parang.”
Mark Trinidad, the widely known local comedian, will also be onstage at “Parang Parang.”
