T&T PM for official Canadian visit

PMs Harper and Persad-Bissessar at an earlier meeting

Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar will make her first visit to Canada since becoming the country’s first female leader in 2010, officials have announced.

Persad-Bissessar has accepted an invitation from Prime Minister Stephen Harper to pay an official visit to Canada over the period April 23-26, 2013.

This official visit of Mrs Persad-Bissessar follows the May 01-02, 2012 State Visit of Governor General David Johnston and Mrs. Sharon Johnston to Trinidad and Tobago during the 50th anniversary of independence of Trinidad and Tobago celebrations, to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada.

Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar’s official visit to Canada will further strengthen the cordial and multi-faceted relationship which Trinidad and Tobago enjoys with Canada.
After visiting parliament in Ottawa, Persad-Bissessar will participate in a “town hall” meeting with the Trinidad and Tobago Diaspora and will have media interviews.  However, no details have been released regarding these meetings, which are scheduled for Toronto.

The Prime Minister will also deliver the keynote address at a trade and investment roundtable hosted by the Canada Council for the Americas during her visit here.
