Richard Arkwright Austin, the former Jamaican and West Indies allrounder, has died at the age of 60.
Nicknamed ‘Danny Germs’, Austin was born in Kingston Jamaica, and represented the West Indies in two tests and one ODI against Australia in 1978 in Port of Spain, Trinidad, at Bridgetown, Barbados and St. John’s , Antigua.
Regarded as talented allrounder, he was dropped after signing for the rebel tour to South Arica in 1982-83. His short career ended at age 29. Austin experienced hardship later in life, eventually becoming homeless.
