York9 sinks Pacific for first CPL Win

By Darnel Harris

York9 ‘s Morey Doner celebrates first win with members of Generation IX, York9 ‘s fan group.

York9 FC took full advantage of good weather and dominant play to notch their first ever win in the Canadian Premier League with a 1 – 0 victory against Pacific FC, from Victoria, British Columbia.

Pacific FC had early opportunities to control the game but wasted their chances. York9’s Luca Gasparotto defended a shot poorly within the goal box, leading to a handball call and penalty kick for Pacific. Ben Fisk, Pacific’s captain, took the shot poorly as Y9’s goalkeeper Nathan Ingham easily stopped the shot to his right.

York9 saw their pressure rewarded when an error by Pacific’s Ryan McCurdy spun the ball into his own net. An off target shot by York9’s Emilio Estevez (Midfielder) was redirected with a glancing kick by Pacific’s McCurdy, to the dismay of his teammates and their travelling fans. Pacific’s coach Michael Silberbauer refused to blame the challenging travel schedule for his team’s performance, arguing travel was simply a fact in a country as vast as Canada
