CPL Game Changers Program Celebrates Soccer Community

The Canadian Premier League (CPL) and Volkswagen Canada are joining forces once more this season to launch the 2024 Volkswagen FC: Game Changers program. This initiative aims to recognize and celebrate five remarkable Canadians who are making a positive impact on their communities through their dedication to soccer.

Mark Noonan, Commissioner of the Canadian Premier League.

Building on the success of its debut in 2022, the program annually highlights individuals who embody Volkswagen Canada’s ethos of ‘Be the Change’ by assuming leadership roles within Canada’s soccer landscape and driving positive transformations through the sport. Selected CPL Game Changers will each receive a $5,000 donation to the community group or program of their choice, along with tickets to a CPL match and exclusive CPL x VW merchandise.

“We’re delighted to continue our support for this fantastic initiative as a founding partner of the CPL,” remarks Edgar Estrada, President of VW Brand for Canada. “In its third year, the Volkswagen FC: Game Changers program has contributed over $50,000 to local community programs and charities. We’re excited to keep recognizing Canadians who are actively embodying change through sports.”

Nominations for the 2024 Volkswagen FC: Game Changers Program are now open, with a deadline of June 3, 2024, for submissions. Nominees can be any outstanding individuals in Canadian soccer who are significantly impacting their communities through their commitment to the sport.

“The nominees in this program are community leaders, deeply passionate about soccer, and advocates for awareness, inclusivity, and accessibility,” states Mark Noonan, Commissioner of the Canadian Premier League. “We firmly believe they deserve recognition for their dedication. It’s an honor to once again collaborate with Volkswagen Canada to celebrate and honor these remarkable individuals through the Volkswagen FC: Game Changers program.”

The Canadian Premier League (CPL), the top tier of men’s professional soccer in Canada, focuses on nurturing homegrown talent to bolster Canadian soccer’s growth nationally and internationally. With strong ownership groups, esteemed corporate partners, and enthusiastic supporters, the CPL aims to build a league that Canadians from all corners of the country can proudly support both on and off the pitch. Currently in its sixth season as of April 2024, the CPL participates in Concacaf and FIFA sanctioned competitions.
