Active Marketplace offering door prizes for Black History Month  final weekend

Since the beginning of February Active Marketplace, better known as Durham flea market, has been busy doing special events to celebrate Black History Month.

President and CEO Zahid Malik says they have decided that for this the last week of BHM, Active launched a sweepstake for the people entering the Marketplace. They are offering three main prizes including two laptop computers and a tablet.

Malik says that all you have to do is to fill out a form when you enter and you are set for the draw, which will be held on Sunday, February 27th. The last entry be accepted at 3:00 pm with the draw taking place at 4 p.m.

“We at the marketplace are very happy to work with members of the Black community in building Black businesses in the area, said Malik.

“This has been a good first step for Black History Month this year; the events have been very successful; now we look forward to doing it again next year making it even bigger and better.”

The active Marketplace opened its doors in June of 2021 at the height of the pandemic because several of the vendors from the old Pickering Market wanted a new home. They approached Malik after they found out that he had bought the old Rona building, located at Kingston Road and Notion Road in Ajax at the border Ajax-Pickering border.

Active Marketplace houses about 175 vendors provide a wide variety of products and services for the burgeoning Durham community. In addition to food products, Active sells news electronics, televisions, and household appliances every weekend; all fresh from the manufacturer.
