The calypso tent, purveyor of the musical gift bequeathed to the Caribbean by enslaved Africans, got the seal of approval last Saturday night from Ghanaians Jennifer Adarkwa Yiadom and Elizabeth Obeng Nkrumah.

The recent arrivals in Canada took some time off from their nursing duties in Welland, Ontario, to get a taste of the Caribbean.

They could hardly stay still at the Professionals Calypso Tent as the calysonians delivered their annual pre-Scotiabank Toronto Caribbean Carnival fare of raucous calypsos at the Steelworkers’ Union Hall.

They said they had a ball and were ready to dress and prance for Carnival. Don’t be surprised if these two Ghananian sistas come jammin’ down de road in Carnival’s Grand Parade.

De tents: Professionals Tent on Saturday (July 11) from 7:30 p.m.  at Steelworkers’ Union Hall, 25 Cecil St, Toronto; Tropical Rhythms Tent on Saturday (July 11) from 7:30 p.m. at Howard Johnson Hotel, 22 Metropolitan Rd., Scarborough (401 & Warden) with special guest Poser from Trinidad; Kaiso Forum Tent on Sunday (July 12) from 4 p.m. at Fantazia Mas Camp, 730 Military Trail, Scarborough, west off Morningside Ave.
