The Town of Ajax is set to honor Black History Month (BHM) with an attractive lineup of events throughout February, celebrating the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians while fostering inclusivity and awareness.

The 2025 Black History Month Event Calendar showcases an array of cultural, educational, and artistic events designed to engage residents, businesses, and community organizations. These events aim to highlight the richness of Black history and culture while addressing contemporary issues and envisioning a more inclusive future.
Mayor Shaun Collier emphasized the significance of the observance, stating, “February’s Black History Month celebrations provide an opportunity to amplify the voices of Black Canadians, reflect on their impact, and foster understanding and inclusion in our diverse community.”

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer Yasmyn Belle highlighted the importance of BHM, stating, “This is a chance to honor Black leaders and innovators while engaging in collective learning to achieve equity.”
As part of the month-long celebrations, the Pan-African flag—symbolizing the African diaspora—will fly at Pat Bayly Square from February 1 to February 7. Ajax, recognized as the most racialized community in Durham Region, remains committed to addressing systemic racism through initiatives such as the Ajax Anti-Racism Task Force.
