The town of Ajax is expressing gratitude to the Ontario government for its investment of over $244,000 to enhance training for Ajax Fire and Emergency Services. This significant funding will prepare firefighters for the evolving challenges of a rapidly changing community.

With Ajax experiencing substantial growth, including high-rise developments of up to 60 stories, specialized training has become essential for emergency responders. The investment will support critical training in elevator rescues, machinery-related emergencies, and electric vehicle fires—skills vital in today’s urban landscape.
“This town is so grateful,” said an Ajax official. “As our community grows and intensifies, it’s crucial our emergency responders have the necessary training to meet new challenges. This funding ensures our fire personnel are even better prepared to handle any emergency.”
MPP Patrice Barnes, representing Ajax, underscored the government’s commitment to equipping firefighters with the tools needed to adapt to Ajax’s urban transformation.

“I’m thrilled to be part of this announcement. We’ve talked about the challenges Ajax Fire is facing, and I’m proud that this funding will help prepare them for the changes in our landscape,” said Barnes. “This investment is a testament to our recognition of the critical role emergency services play in keeping our community safe.”
The partnership with Durham College has been key to advancing this initiative. Robin Young, Director of Corporate Training Services at Durham College, expressed excitement about the collaboration. “We are thrilled to be part of this partnership. This funding will help us upskill Ajax firefighters in areas such as elevator technical rescues, ensuring they are ready for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges,” she said.
Fire Chief Aaron Burridge echoed these sentiments, highlighting the positive impact this investment will have on both firefighters and residents. “This funding is truly going to make a difference for us and for the residents of Ajax when responding to technical rescues. We’re proud to accept this support and are grateful for the government’s commitment.”
As Ajax continues to grow, the investment not only enhances emergency response capabilities but also opens doors for young residents considering a career in fire services. The collaboration with Durham College provides a pathway for aspiring firefighters to receive top-notch training, making it an excellent career option.
Ajax Fire and Emergency Services, now better equipped to handle the community’s needs, continues to serve as a cornerstone of safety in the rapidly expanding town.
