Trinidad and Tobago’s Parang Queen, Alicia Jaggasar, will be the headliner at Toronto’s inaugural Parang Latin Fiesta at Lula Lounge on Sunday October 30.

Ms Jaggessar who will be performing for the first time in Canada, is the lead singer in Los Alumnos de San Juan, one of the leading parang bands in Trinidad and Tobago, where she has copped the title of Parang Queen no fewer than eleven times.

Toronto Parang Latin Fiesta is the brain child of theatre director, actor and comedienne, Rhoma Spencer who has teamed up with Antonio Maestre, one of Toronto’s leading parranderos, to present the traditional music of Hispanic heritage from Trinidad and Tobago at the start of the parang season in the city.

As Spencer notes in a news release, parang music promoters in Toronto have often brought from  Trinidad and Tobago soca parang and parang soca artistes ” but never an artiste who performs the traditional house parang music.”

“One year in the making, after several attempts over the years, the organizers are pulling out all the stops to present this cutting edge evening of traditional house parang and Latin fusion music, La Casa de FusiónLatin Calypso/ Soca, pioneered by Ms Jaggasar, ”

says the news release.

Ms Jaggasar has performed at WOMEX in Budapest, Hungary and the SXSW-South by South West – Music Fest in Texas, USA, bringing her brand of Latin fusion music to the world stage.
