It’s not every day Caribbean folk get to jam to a Trinidad & Tobago violinist playing calypso and reggae. Yes, that’s right, “violin playing kaiso”.
But André J. Donawa did precisely that last Saturday at a well-attended concert in Scarborough. The young violinist lived up to his billing by “electrifying” the audience with a repertoire that went from pop to reggae to calypso. And in Donawa’s words, “Calypso is the roots”.
The patrons lapped it up, danced and crowded the floor at every opportunity as Ossie Gurley and his band, “The Truth”, kept the vibe going.
