The Metro All-fours League is in mourning following the sudden death of Annand “Battery” Mahabir who passed away on October 30, 2022 after more than 25 years of perfect attendance and active service in Toronto, Ontario, and Metro All-fours Leagues.
Mahabir, who was 67yrs old and a resident of Scarborough, was an avid card player who played his last game at an All-fours tournament at a Brampton Club. It was there where he suffered a fatal heart attack.
Born in Gopee Trace, Penal, Trinidad, Mahabir was an active Toronto community member, a dedicated cricket player and organizer. He paved the way for younger cricketers with his continuous involvement in the sport.
On Thursday the Metro All-fours League and All-fours players will be gathering with family, friends and associates to pay tribute, to say good bye to Battery, and to celebrate his life; a life of man who has given so much to the community and was love and appreciated.
Battery was a man of deep conviction and passion – he believed there was good in everyone and together, as he often said, we are here to make the Greater Toronto Area, a better place.
Metro All-fours League was a part of Battery’s being. Sometimes he was referred to as Mr. All-fours. He believed that with a small group of committed individuals, mountains could be moved. He would say that we are lucky to have so many good people in one place, the better to help other people.
As a member of La Club he played a major role in getting the Club started. He wanted the family of La Club to be together. He felt that it was important to have the members and players meet together, work together, help each other, take on little projects, and having fellowship and fun together.
Battery was a proud father, family man, Trinidadian, and Canadian who believed in giving youth the best opportunities in Canada – the best country in the world.
Metro All-fours League will miss Annand and will always remember his significant contributions.
Annand “Battery” Mahabir was the son of Ramnarine and Moon Mahabir. He grew up alongside his three siblings, Sillar, Ahilare and Vernon. He is survived by his wife, Christine, and four daughters, Teisha, Aneisha, Aveisha, Lisa, and two grandchildren, Aiden and Amarley.
