ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Police have detained former national security minister Collin Derrick.
The ex-justice minister was taken into custody at a town hall meeting hosted by Prime Minister Gaston Browne, whom he had unsuccessfully challenged in previous general elections.
Details surrounding the circumstances of his arrest remain unclear. However, reports indicate he was involved in an argument with someone at the meeting.
He has not been charged, said his brother Gordon ‘Banks’ Derrick, who described the arrest as “unfortunate.
“It is a shame that the country has come to this,” he said.
A crowd of supporters held a vigil outside the police station where the former justice minister was held.
