Avelo Airlines is offering Canadians bargain basement fares to US destinations
by Stephen Weir
According to recent reports, Windsor residents, especially “Boomers” are no longer crossing the border to visit Detroit. Blame it on Trump and concerns about ICE border patrols. That, however, may be old news

Avelo Air, a 4-year-old bargain basement airline, beckons Canadians. It has recently slashed the price of a one-way ticket from Detroit to Florida for $34 US. It’s pitch to Canadians that for only $34, you may visit the Sunshine State and watch the Blue Jays and the Detroit Tigers this coming Spring season, or catch a Caribbean connection.
And the second hook? For parents getting to Orlando (home of Disney), it’s CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!
They focus on offering affordable flights, particularly to family destinations in Florida, like Orlando, Tampa, and Fort Lauderdale. As for Canadians, we can use Avelo Airlines to fly to the U.S just like U.S. residents
The Avelo focus is on keeping costs low, so their model is similar to other ultra-low-cost carriers, meaning you may have to pay extra for things like checked bags, seat selection, and onboard food, but the base fares are quite affordable.
The airline operates 22 Boeing jets. Bring your own Blue Jay caps, mouse ears and litres of sun tan lotion.
