Bagai returns as Canadian captain

Ashish  Bagai returns to captain the Canadian National Cricket team after a two-year absence from the post. He will lead the side in the last two ICC World Cricket League Championship (WCL) 50-over games against the Netherlands, which will be played on August 27th and August 29th at the Maple Leaf cricket ground, King City.

Kenneth Kamyuka, the former Ugandan international allrounder who plays for Vikings CC in the Elite Division of the Toronto & District Cricket Association has been included in the 14-man squad.

The full squad : A Bagai (Captain) Harvir Baidwan, Damodar Daesrath, Jeremy Gordon, Ruvindu Gunasekera, Amarbir (Jimmy) Hansra, Kenneth Kamyuka, Nitish Kumar, Usman Limbada, Salman Nazar, Henry Osinde, Hiral Patel, Raza-ur-Rehman and Junaid Siddique.

The WCL matches follow the four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup match also between Canada and the Netherlands at the same venue scheduled from August 22nd – August 25th.

In the ICC Intercontinental Cup match Amarbir (Jimmy) Hansra will captain the Canadian team  and the other change is opening bowler Cecil Pervez comes in for K. Kamyuka.

According to the coach, Gus Logie, “We look forward to the ICup series against the Netherlands with a renewed sense of anticipation and expectation, following our below par showing against the UAE in the just concluded ODI and T20 series.”

“We are are all disappointed that despite the hard work, great build up and support from the cricket loving public, we were unable to deliver the wins which we all deserved.” said the coach.

The manager of the team is Johnny Bujan.

This is the first fixtures of the seventh and final round of the ICC WCL Championship and the ICC Intercontinental Cup. At the end of the sixth round, Ireland is leading in both tournaments and has already qualified for a place in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and also for the final of the Intercontinental Cup. Canada is at the bottom of the points table among the seven other countries.
