Barbados PM is keynote speaker at memorial dinner in Toronto

Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart will deliver the keynote address at the ninth annual Errol Barrow Memorial Dinner to be held at the Markham Convention Centre in Toronto on Saturday, September 24.

(Errol “Dipper” Barrow was the first prime minister of Barbados.

He founded the Democratic Labour Party and became its leader in 1958.

Barrow served as premier of Barbados from 1961 to 1966 when, after leading the country to Independence from Britain, he became prime minister.)

The dinner to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Barbados’ Independence is organized by the Canadian branch of the Barbados Democratic Labour Party (DLP).

Reynold Austin, its president, said in a news release that at the dinner the prime minister will have the opportunity “to appraise Barbadians living in Canada of his stewardship and the progress the country is making.”

Prime Minister Stuart is also scheduled to attend a Town Hall meeting at Koffler House at the University of Toronto on Sunday September 24.
