A recent family trip to St. Lucia led us to the enchanting Bay Garden Beach Resort and Spa, an inviting haven for families seeking relaxation and adventure. Located in the picturesque Rodney Bay, this multifaceted resort is the brainchild of former local school teachers Joyce and Desmond Destang, who transformed their modest beginnings into a warm and welcoming retreat.
Upon arriving at the resort around 11 am, the genuine hospitality of Bay Garden Resort immediately became apparent. A photograph of the owners, Joyce and Desmond Destang, graced the lobby, depicts their transition from schoolteachers to successful resort owners. In 1994, they founded the original 45-room Bay Gardens Hotel, setting the foundation for the now-expanded Bay Gardens Resorts.
Their dedication to creating an exceptional St. Lucian experience is evident throughout the resort, from the warm welcome at the front desk to the commitment of every staff member. The Destangs’ journey embodies the spirit of St. Lucia, and their resort chain remains a testament to their passion for hospitality.
During our visit, Bay Garden Beach Resort and Spa was a hive of activity, hosting families from all corners of the world, united by a shared love for an inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere. Children of all ages, from tiny infants to spirited teenagers, added laughter and joy to the atmosphere, building sandcastles and forging memories that will last a lifetime.
Parents reveled in the beauty of the beach, with its pristine sand and gentle waves, ensuring their children’s safety at the water’s edge. The resort’s inclusive atmosphere allowed families to create shared experiences, whether through playful dips for toddlers or thrilling water park adventures for older kids. My 10-year-old son managed to lure me into the Waterpark, where we couldn’t get enough of the trampoline and slides.
Bay Garden’s amenities catered to families, with diverse food options and thoughtful facilities like multiple washrooms, outdoor showers, and foot wash areas. Beach vendors respectfully allowed families to enjoy the space without intrusion, offering everything from rotis, rum, to coconut water and trinkets.
Bay Garden Beach Resort and Spa transcended being merely a honeymooner’s paradise; it welcomed visitors from all over the world, from Americans to islanders like a Trinidadian gentleman experiencing his first-ever vacation at the age of seventy-four.
For those seeking an island escape that combines adventure, relaxation, and refreshment in one place, Bay Garden Beach Resort & Spa is the perfect destination. The resort offers a plethora of pleasures, including on-site dining at Hi-Tide Restaurant or SeaGrapes Beach Bar & Restaurant, a fitness center, a lagoon-style swimming pool, and Jacuzzi, and the largest outdoor water entertainment complex in St. Lucia – Splash Island Water Park. Business travelers will appreciate the complimentary access to the business center and well-equipped meeting rooms, while wedding planners will find an elegant wedding gazebo and arch. For pure relaxation, La Mer Spa and Salon awaits.
Bay Garden Beach Resort and Spa is a true gem in St. Lucia, offering families a memorable and inclusive experience that transcends borders and generations. The resort’s commitment to hospitality, coupled with its diverse amenities, ensures that every visitor leaves with cherished memories of their time in this tropical paradise.
