Black led organizations across Canada can now seek a share of $8 million in new funding aimed at expanding community programs, strengthening institutions and addressing barriers facing Black Canadians.

The Foundation for Black Communities has launched the fourth call for proposals under its Black Ideas Grant 4.0 initiative, with applications open until October 20, 2026. Successful projects are expected to be announced in spring 2027.

The latest funding round includes $6.4 million in federal funding and is being offered through the Black led Philanthropic Endowment Fund, a $200 million endowment established to provide sustained financial support for Black led, Black focused and Black serving non profit organizations and registered charities.

Jobs and Families Minister Patty Hajdu congratulated the Foundation for Black Communities on the latest funding round.

Since the foundation began administering the fund in 2023, hundreds of community initiatives have received support across Canada. Those projects have focused on strengthening organizations, expanding services and creating opportunities for Black communities.

The fourth funding call will support initiatives focused on community development, socio economic inclusion and efforts to combat anti Black racism.

Kimahli Powell, Board Chair of the Foundation for Black Communities, said the initiative demonstrated the impact of directing resources toward organizations working within Black communities.

“What FFBC and our partners have built together is proof that when Black communities are trusted with resources, we deliver, not just for ourselves, but for all of Canada,” Powell said.

He described the latest round as an investment in existing ideas, institutions and leadership.

“The B.I.G. 4.0 is more than another funding round, it is an investment in the ideas, institutions and leadership already driving change in Black communities across Canada,” Powell said.

The foundation describes the endowment as Canada’s first Black led philanthropic fund of its kind.
