Canada wins opening warm-up match

Canada won their first warm-up match against Smart Choice America XI at Moosa Stadium in  Houston, Texas, in preparation for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Americas Division One Twenty/20 Championship which starts Monday (May 3) at new World Sports Park in Indianapolis.

Canada, elected to bat, scored 172 for five wickets in their 20 overs with skipper Rizwan Cheema topscoring with 54 and Srimantha Wijeyeratne undefeated on 51. Mervyn Dillon, the former Trinidad & Tobago and West Indies fast bowler, took one for 28 in his three overs.

Smart Choice XI USA in reply scored 146 for seven wickets in their 20 overs with opener Will Perkins topscoring with 34. Nikhill Dutta took three for 15 and Cecil Pervez two for 29.

Canada will play two more warm-up games before leaving for their ICC Tournament this weekend.

The 14-man Canadian squad: Rizwan Cheema (captain); Hamza Tariq (vice-captain); Amarbir Hansra; Cecil Pervez; Farhan Malik; Junaid Siddique;  Khurran Chohan;  Navneet Dhaliwal; Nikhill Dutta; Nitish Kumar; Ravindu Gunasekera; Saad Bin Zafar; Satsimranjit Dhindsa and Srimantha Wijeyeratne.

Head coach is Mukesh Narula and the manager is Manzoor Chaudhary.
