Canadian newlyweds drown in Trinidad

A Canadian couple who came to Trinidad for the recent Carnival celebrations, drowned at a beach on the island on Sunday.

The couple, David Francis, 34, and his wife Jessica, 33, were married three months ago.

They arrived in Trinidad on February 24 last  and were staying at a house  in north-east Trinidad.

Police said  the couple, accompanied by a group of friends, went to a beach on Sunday afternoon.

It was reported that  Jessica Francis got into difficulty while  in  the sea and called out to her huband who went into the water and attempted to save her.

But the couple went under the rough waters and disappeared.

The woman’s body was recovered on  Sunday evening by the Trinidad and Tobago coast guard.

A search continues for her husband.
