The community is invited to a benefit dinner to launch Scarborough Hospital Foundation’s Caribbean Philanthropic Council at JC’s Banquet Hall, 1686 Ellesmere Rd, Scarborough, on Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
The council’s mission is to provide preventative health care measures unique to the Caribbean community. The council will carry out this mission through fundraising events and awareness.
Jamaica-born Dr. Alvin Curling and Andrea Hazell will host the launch with the keynote address by Jacqueline Baptiste-Savoie, a clinical nurse specialist at Scarborough Hospital.
“We look forward to an informative evening of community spirit, entertainment, and dinner with members of the community. It’s the first of its kind. It about spreading awareness and raising funds for critical equipment needed for the Scarborough Hospital,” Curling told The Camera.
“Strong communities build strong hospitals,” Curling added, noting that the Caribbean Philanthropic Council will operate in Scarborough, the most diverse community in Canada.
Scarborough Hospital Foundation has worked with generous donors, volunteers and community members to raise funds needed to help save lives and support Scarborough Hospital’s vision to be recognized as Canada’s leader in providing the best healthcare for a global community.
Through community fundraising events and education sessions, in partnership with the Scarborough Hospital, the new council will bring awareness on how to fund solutions and prevent diseases prevalent in the Caribbean community.
The council’s mandate includes ensuring the Caribbean community is aware of preventative strategies to decrease incidence of diseases prevalent in the culture.
