The Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) is set to host its annual CJF Awards on June 12, with a sold-out audience eagerly anticipating a night of celebrating excellence in Canadian journalism. Among the program highlights is the CJF Tribute, recognizing tech journalist Kara Swisher for her groundbreaking work within the technology industry, with the award to be presented by Jacquie McNish, former Senior Correspondent at The Globe and Mail and the Wall Street Journal.

Omar Sachedina, Chief News Anchor and Senior Editor of CTV NATIONAL NEWS, will serve as the emcee for the evening at Toronto’s Royal York Hotel, welcoming over 500 journalists, media executives, and business leaders from across the country.

A notable moment of the event will be the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Phillip Crawley, former CEO and publisher of The Globe and Mail, acknowledging his quarter-century tenure leading one of Canada’s premier newspapers and his unwavering commitment to journalistic excellence. The award will be presented by David Thomson, chairman of Thomson Reuters and The Woodbridge Company.

Kathy English, Chair of the CJF Board, underscores the significance of the awards in celebrating journalistic excellence and inspiring leadership, highlighting the vital role journalism plays in shaping communities and the world.

In addition to the Tribute and the Lifetime Achievement Award, the evening will feature the presentation of several other awards, including those for Climate Solutions Reporting, Excellence in Journalism (large and small media), Climate Photojournalism, and The Landsberg Award. The CJF will also recognize recipients of various fellowships and bursaries aimed at supporting diversity and fostering the next generation of journalists.

Natalie Turvey, President and Executive Director of CJF, expresses excitement about bringing together distinguished guests to celebrate Canadian journalism and support its future through fellowships. Turvey emphasizes the essential role of quality journalism in maintaining a healthy democracy and acknowledges the crucial support received from the media and business communities in nurturing emerging journalists.
