Jamaica-born Dr. Maurice Bygrave, a founder of CARIBANA, will present a film version of his play When Will I be Loved which focuses on the fundamental principles of the Masonic Order.

This insight into what some in the Caribbean community consider a closed door society will be presented at Toronto Onyx Lions Club Den, 875 Queen St. E., Toronto, on May 27 at 7 p.m. as part of the Business Networking Series.

The presentation will be followed by a Caribbean culinary delight and music.

Bygrave, a member of Toronto Onyx Lions Club, said, “The Lions’ motto is We Serve and the Lions are champions of sight conservation through the dog guides and other services such as youth outreach, international relations, environmental issues.”

Bygrave said that “While light-hearted and humourous, the actors, brothers and sisters of Modern Free Masons Canada, showcase the Masonic values of brotherly, sisterly love, fellowship and relief for the disadvantaged and how these values have empowered the success of Masonry worldwide.”

Bygrave graduated from Harbord Collegiate whose alumni include film genius David Cronenberg (his classmate) and Leonard Braithwaite, Ontario’s first Black MPP. Later, he enrolled at U of T Dental School and graduated in 1966.

In the 1986, he was the founding member of Seagull Lodge a Masonic Order of Modern Free and Accepted Masons.

“My goal is to remain focused on giving back to and building the communities of which I am part. The legacy I want to leave is that of a builder doing good deeds, to increase the vibrancy and value of our communities,” Bygrave said.

The play, first performed in 1993 at the Modern Free Masons Convention in Rochester, New York, was inspired by the Supreme Grand Master and the Supreme Grand Matron of Modern Free Masonry Inc.
