The Caribbean community will gather at a continued celebration of the life of Amaria ‘MoMo’ Diljohn with a fundraising concert featuring recording artists tomorrow (Jan. 9) at 9 p.m. at Belleeny’s Martini Resto-Lounge, 4000 Steeles Ave., Unit 14 in Woodbridge.
“We are hoping for an excellent turnout by members of the Caribbean community, including the Trinidad and Tobago friends as Amaria’s Mom is a Trinidadian,” iconic Jamaican cultural proponent Devon Haughton told The Camera yesterday.
Amaria, 14, known as MoMo was struck and killed by a TTC bus while trying to cross an intersection shortly before Christmas. She had just gotten off the bus. Her funeral last Saturday was attended by hundreds of mourners.
Haughton said, “Amaria will be remembered by family and friends. We hope that her life will be cherished and we think that funds could be used to continue remembering her. We think that her family members are best able to determine the use of any funds raised.”
The concert will feature performers from the Greater Toronto Area who will donate their time and talent.
Among the performers are Jahsmin Daley, Jay Harmony Davis, Carlos Morgan, Jimmy Reid, Mr. Cooper and Courtney Stone. Byron Ellington – Sir B – host of Cool Runnings on CHRY-FM, will be master of ceremonies.
