The Congress of Black Women Ontario (CBWO) has begun receiving and reviewing applications for two postgraduate scholarships it plans on awarding this year. Each scholarship is worth $3,500.
“Applications are open to both male and female’’, who are in a doctoral or master’s program at university, Congress president Loris Thomas told The Caribbean Camera.

The scholarship presentation, said Thomas, will form part of CBWO’s 2026 “Celebration and Recognition Brunch’’. It will be held April 19 at Toronto’s Woodbine Banquet and Convention Centre, 30 Vice Regent Boulevard. The theme is, “Building on Legacy! Igniting and Illuminating the Future!’’
“We have been fortunate to secure Dr. Itah Sadu, managing director of Blackhurst Cultural Centre, as our keynote speaker,’’ Thomas disclosed. “The host is Nicole Waldron, host and producer of The Victory Speaks Show and Podcast. And, vendor and sponsorship opportunities are available.’’

The Congress of Black Women of Canada was founded by the late Kay Livingstone, who exhibited a passion to unite Black women to make a difference in their community and the wider community. The first meeting of the Congress of Black Women as convened in Toronto in 1973.
At the moment, there are eight chapters of the Congress of Black Women in Ontario.
