Dant emerged victorious by an exciting ten-run margin over Sunshine on Saturday at Ashtonbee Park, Scarborough, where the 2018 Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) ten-over competition climaxed.
Dant, which have been dominating in the League’s all three formats this season, won the toss and opted to bat first. They were able to set up a challenging 91-7 at the end of the ten overs.They also bowled well, restricting Sunshine to 81-5.
Former Guyana and West Indies one-day all-rounder Royston Crandon scored 41 for Dant which counted three sixes and a four.
The right-handed Crandon also featured in a steady 39-run fourth-wicket stand with ex-Guyana first-class skipper Damodar Daesarth, who scored 14 runs.
Veteran bowler Bobby Pararsnauth was on target throughout his two-over spell. conceding only four runs and grabbing two wickets while Anil Mahadeo supported with two wickets as well which cost him 29 runs from two overs.
Sunshine started their innings well, racking up 36 runs from just four overs but there was a setback after three quick wickets. Azam Haniff scored 21 while Imran Ali also showed fine form with an aggressive 18. Satrohan Balkarran claimed two wickets for six runs from two frugal overs as well while Bholonauth Bunty took one wicket during his two-over stint .
Crandon was named the Most Valuable Player.
Winning captain Daesrath said he was delighted with the victory and was confident that his team would have put on a good performance to reclaim the trophy.
At the Norman Sue-Bakery 15-over final, scheduled for this weekend at the Ashtonbee Park, Sunshine will be opposing Better Hope.
