PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad  – Canadian-based singer and composer David Michael Rudder took to the stage Under The Trees at the Normandie Hotel here two Saturdays ago to present many of  his hits, old and  new, at Rudder 6.5, a concert to celebrate his 65th birthday.

The venue was jam-packed with fans of the artste who was born in  Port of Spain and who received the keys to the city in a recent ceremony at City Hall.

At the concert, Rudder offered about 50 selections from his extensive repertoire, which included Bahia Girl, Calypso Music, Song for a Lonely Soul, Mad Man Rant, Jump Up, Madness, Calabash, Permission to Mash Up de Place, Trini to the Bone, Hammer, Long Time Band, and High Mas.

Rudder won the National Calypso Monarch, Young Kings and Road March competitions in Trinidad  in 1986. His Hammer was also the Tune of Choice that year for the National Panorama winner, Trinidad All Stars.

Rudder 6.5 comes to the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto on June 9.
