Veteran Calypso Tent De Big Show Turns

De Big Show has entered its 20th Crop Over season, marking two decades since the calypso tent emerged on Barbados’ entertainment scene, described as a rare cultural milestone.

At Saturday night’s launch, Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Ltd chief marketing and member customer experience officer Gail Best Niles said the anniversary reflects staying power in an industry where few productions endure.

“This is a significant milestone for any tent or entertainment institution,” she said, praising management, staff and calypsonians who have remained part of the production over the years.

Chairman Hallam Nicholls introduced updates to the 2026 cast, confirming Romancia Murray, Duke CheckEd Shirt, Nikita, MuZiqKaL and Sheri Dan.

They join a line-up featuring Mr Blood, Adrian Clarke, iWeb, Classic, Chrystal Cummins Beckles, Jamal Slocombe, Biggie Irie and Ranaan.

Also included are TC and Mac Fingall, along with veteran Mighty Grynner, Marvay, Mary E, Mikey, Mistah Dale, Natahlee, Sakarah, Skung Yung, Tae and junior semifinalist Bit Bit.

Nicholls said confidence remains high as the season approaches. “We intend once again to take the crown,” he said.

The tent will operate from Queen’s College, Husbands, St James, staging four shows beginning Saturday. Pic O De Crop competitors face judging on July 21 at UWI Cave Hill Campus at Queen’s College main venue.

Launch event also previewed the season, with performers offering calypso and soca snippets to an engaged audience.
