A Dominican Canadian author is launching her new illustrated children’s book at Chapter’s at Kennedy Commons on Saturday February 16 at 4:30 p.m.

Mayma Raphael, who now lives in New York, said her book, I Love the Skin I’m In, “is an inspiring and empowering book for children of color especially Black children, and very enlightening for others.”

The Carelton University graduate said she was inspired to write the book by her 3 year old daughter.

The book launch is part of Black History Month celebrations.

Raphael will also be speaking to children at the Africentric School on February 14th where she will read from the book and answer questions.
