In what has become one of the most talked-about conflicts in recent hip-hop history, Drake and Kendrick Lamar find themselves embroiled in a heated feud that may have recently taken a dangerous turn. Escalating to the point where law enforcement had to address it after a security guard was shot outside Drake’s Toronto residence.
Their relationship wasn’t always contentious, though. Over a decade ago, the two collaborated on several tracks, including Drake’s “Buried Alive Interlude” in 2011, Lamar’s “Poetic Justice” in 2012, and A$AP Rocky’s “(Expletive) ‘Problems'” the same year.
However, tensions flared in 2013 when Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control” ignited a firestorm. In the track, Lamar called out various rappers, including Drake, asserting his dominance in the industry. Drake responded defiantly in a Billboard cover story, leading to a series of jabs exchanged between the two.
Despite intermittent periods of calm, the feud resurfaced in October 2023 when J. Cole referenced it in his track “First Person Shooter.” This reignited tensions, leading to a barrage of diss tracks between the two artists.
The conflict reached a crescendo in recent weeks with a flurry of diss tracks exchanged between Drake and Lamar. Lamar’s tracks, including “Euphoria” and “6:16 in LA,” targeted Drake’s skills, personal life, and inner circle. In response, Drake unleashed tracks like “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle,” employing artificial intelligence technology to add verses from Tupac and Snoop Dogg.
As the feud intensified, allegations of abuse and infidelity surfaced in Drake’s response, “Family Matters.” Lamar hit back with tracks like “Meet the Grahams” and “Not Like Us,” alleging that Drake has a secret daughter and labeling him a “predator.”
Drake’s latest response, “The Heart Part 6,” challenges Lamar’s allegations and reaffirms his position in the ongoing conflict.
While the feud between Drake and Lamar continues to captivate hip-hop fans, the recent events serve as a stark reminder of the volatile nature of the industry and the personal stakes involved in these high-profile conflicts.
