Durham Mas’ goes to church for Canboulay

Durham Mas’, led by Jerrol “Stretch” Augustine,  presents Canboulay  for 2017  Toronto Carnival.

Augustine introduced his costumes at his band launching at the Church of the Nativity in Scarborough on Saturday .

Now in its third year, the  band   is ” bringing back “some of the old time carnival characters but  will also feature many of the modern elements of mas.’

Look out for characters such as Dame Lorraine leading each of the seven sections on ” de Lakeshore ” this summer.

More than 300 mas’ aficionados attended the launch with its amazing presentation  of costumes such as  Sugar Cane in lime green, Chantwell in fushia and white, Freedom in Blue and Red, Masquerade in blue and pink and Colours featuring a rainbow of colours- and much more.

The Mas’ camp will be located at  the Curling Club on 730 Military Trail just West of Morningside Avenue and will be open on the April 29 when costumes will go on sale.

The band leader says already the demand for costumes “looks good” and we expect to be” about  800 strong this year”

Costume prices start at $200.00.

And that, says Augustine ” is affordable to many.”
