Two-time National Poetry Slam Champion, author & producer Dwayne Morgan, along with his organization Up From The Roots Entertainment, is gearing up to celebrate a significant milestone in the world of spoken word. The 25th anniversary of the renowned “When Brothers Speak Spoken Word Concert” is set to captivate audiences on Saturday, December 9th, at 8pm, at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, 27 Front Street East.

Morgan’s Up From The Roots Entertainment is well regarded for its commitment to promoting the positive artistic contributions of African Canadian and urban-influenced artists. As the curator, producer, and host of “When Brothers Speak,” Morgan consistently assembles a lineup of top-tier talent, making it one of the most anticipated events of the year.

Established in 1999, “When Brothers Speak” has retained its status as North America’s largest and longest-running showcase for black male spoken word artists. The event serves as a platform to celebrate the voices, stories, talents, and experiences of Black male spoken word artists, recognizing not only their exceptional artistic abilities but also their invaluable roles as mentors.

The 25th edition of “When Brothers Speak” will feature Ontario’s first Poet Laureate, Randell Adjei; Shawn William from Oakland; Toronto’s Nigel Birch; Eddie Lartey from Hamilton; and the internationally acclaimed Suli Breaks from the UK. This year’s lineup also features Scarborough Walk of Fame Inductee, Dwayne Morgan himself.

A particularly exciting addition to the roster is Suli Breaks, marking the first UK artist to be part of the event in nearly a decade. Suli gained worldwide recognition in 2012 when his powerful poem, “Why I Hate School but Love Education,” went viral, amassing over 10 million views.
