Toronto will once again witness the fusion of creativity and environmental advocacy as Ancestry Footsteps (AF) brings back Art in Motion with its 2025 exhibition, Eco Art Expressions. Running from October 4 to November 9 at the Withrow Common Gallery on the CNE grounds, the exhibition showcases the work of 22 artists from Canada and abroad, each using recycled or eco-friendly materials to highlight urgent environmental issues.

The exhibition features a diverse lineup of artists, including Tessa Alexander of Trinidad & Tobago, Anna-K Cuffe of Jamaica, Leo Owen Johnson of Barbados, and international contributors such as Vaishalee Chawla (UK) and Takashi Hamada (Japan). Canadian talent will be strongly represented by artists like Tiffany April, Lisa Armstrong, Alex Thompson of Alberta, and The Artist Valentina. Together, they will present works ranging from watercolor paintings and pointillism to sculpture and wearable art, all with sustainability at the core.
While the main exhibition runs Tuesdays through Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with free admission, a series of special events adds to the experience. The Vernissage, on October 3, offers patrons a first look and an opportunity to meet the artists, complete with refreshments ($25 admission). The gallery then joins Toronto’s Nuit Blanche festivities on October 4–5, staying open overnight for visitors free of charge. On October 18, art and fashion merge in Eco Couture In Motion, a fashion show featuring designs by Elina Ten ($25 admission). The programming concludes November 1 with an Eco Talk, a free, registered event where guest presenters will share insights on sustainability and environmental advocacy.
Ancestry Footsteps, a woman-led nonprofit, remains dedicated to preserving Caribbean and African legacies while championing global issues through creative platforms. With Eco Art Expressions, AF underscores the urgency of recycling, reducing waste, and re-imagining our relationship with the planet through the lens of multicultural and Indigenous artistry.
