Toronto-based Grenada-born pianist and composer Eddie Bullen is now on a two-week “musical tour” of China with his ensemble, the Eddie Bullen Band.

During the current tour, the  ensemble which  has performed in various cities across Canada and many parts of the Caribbean, is playing contemporary jazz from Bullen’s original material featured on his albums

The band which includes Andrew Stewart/bass, Otis Williams/drums and Rob Christian/sax-flute, will be playing in several provinces.

In an interview before leaving for China, Bullen told the Caribbean Camera that his theatre performances are “already sold out.”

” The people in China  are very curious about anything foreign and they take the opportunity to see something new, something different,” he said.

” We have eight gigs in China and each time the members of our band will be  the only performers onstage,” he added.

Notably absent  on the trip is Bullen’s son, Quincy, also an accomplished pianist.

“Quincy couldn’t make it this time but maybe next time, his father said.

To date, Eddie Bullen has produced over 150 albums and is currently working on several new ventures through his record company, Thunder Dome Sounds, and publishing company, QDB music.

Bullen said that through Thunder Dome Sounds, he is fulfilling his passion for nurturing youth talent with a high school co-op program he launched in 1986.

Since he moved to Toronto from Grenada  in 1980, he has worked with Caribbean, Canadian and American artists such as Melba Moore, Anslem Douglas, Byron Lee, Maestro, David Rudder, Liberty Silver, Deborah Cox and Dee Dee Bridgewater.  He is also a composer and arranger for TV, Radio and Films.

Eddie Bullen has received several awards  for his outstanding talents. From his first album, ‘Nocturnal Affair‘ to his most recent ‘Spice Island’, he gives his audience a taste of contemporary jazz, flavoured with Caribbean rhythms.
