Embarking on a ‘fruity adventure’ in St. Lucia

By Jahmela Joseph-Thomas

During a recent visit to St. Lucia, a Caribbean gem known for its lush landscapes and warm hospitality, I discovered a unique and delightful pastime—”fruit picking”. This activity, nestled amidst the vibrant allure of the island’s natural beauty, transcends age barriers and immerses you in a visual feast of nature’s bounty.

With friendly nods and warm welcomes from neighbors, my companions and I sought permission to wander their orchards, eagerly eyeing the abundant starfruit, oranges, golden apples, guavas, and mangos that adorned the trees.

Led by an eight-year-old named Euthalio Philgence, we roamed among coconut trees and vibrant vegetation, the air filled with the sweet scent of ripened fruit. Our expedition wasn’t just about harvesting; it was a visual feast of nature, with the occasional sight of chickens and rabbits adding to the bucolic charm.

Engaging both children and adults, this activity allowed us to joyfully pluck ripe fruits straight from their branches. Meandering toward a serene river, we discovered glistening waters revealing an underwater world teeming with life. Fish darted gracefully beneath the surface, captivating our attention and adding an unexpected aquatic delight to our adventure.

Fruit picking in St. Lucia became more than just gathering produce, it became an immersive experience into the island’s vibrant natural offerings. From the generosity of friendly neighbors to the picturesque scenery and encounters with local fauna, this wholesome activity offered a glimpse into the abundant beauty and harmony of St. Lucia’s countryside.

As you plan your next Caribbean getaway, consider embarking on a fruity adventure in St. Lucia. Not only will you indulge in the island’s fresh and delicious fruits, but you’ll also immerse yourself in the warmth of the local community and the breathtaking natural beauty that makes St. Lucia a true paradise for travelers of all ages.
