The Caribbean Camera team is mourning the loss of the beloved grandmother of member David Peart. Evelyn Christie, affectionately known as Mammie and Aunt Coolie, passed away suddenly at her home at the age of 102 on November 29, 2024.
Evelyn, born in 1922, was the last of her siblings, making her the matriarch of the family. She left behind a large and loving family, including her five children, 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was known for her joyful humour and her ability to light up a room with her bright smile. She was a devout Christian, regularly attending church, reading her Bible, and always offering prayers for others. Her love for hats, especially the fancy ones she wore to church, was well-known, as was her enjoyment of reggae music. She was also an excellent cook, with her salt fish fritters being a particular favourite among her family.
“Evelyn’s passing has left a void in our lives,” said David Peart, “We are so incredibly grateful to have had her in our lives for as long as we did. Loving and missing you forever and always Mammie.”
Visitation and funeral services will be held at McEachnie Funeral Home in Ajax on January 3, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens from 12:15 PM to 12:45 PM. The family extends their invitation to those who wish to pay their respects.
