Fan Expo

Fan Expo Canada made a grand return to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from August 21 to 24. This year’s lineup attracted over 135,000+ fans from all kinds of fandoms.

Diversity and Family Presence

  • More Black families attended this year than at previous Fan Expos, and you could really feel the difference. The atmosphere was warmer, more grounded, and vibrant. Kids and adults alike were in their element with cosplay. With lightsabers and capes flying, some parents weren’t just watching, “NO,” they were fully engaged, laughing, taking photos, and even joining in the fun as a family. It created a true sense of belonging, as if we weren’t just attendees but part of the event. The change wasn’t loud or overwhelming, but it was significant. You could see the family vibe of Fan Expo evolving right before your eyes, making the entire weekend feel larger and more meaningful. You could genuinely feel the changing family demographics of Fan Expo, which made the weekend even more exciting.

Panels and Celebrity Moments

  • An Evening with Marty & Doc was the emotional highlight of the weekend. Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd reunited to celebrate “Back to the Future’s” 40th anniversary. The event was sold out and featured writer Bob Gale and actress Mary Steenburgen.
  • Mike Tyson showed a different side of himself in a casual but packed panel.
  • John Boyega appeared in a lively Star Wars-related session that added some serious energy to the Expo.
  • Other big names like Ewan McGregor, Mary Steenburgen, John Boyega, Hailee Steinfeld, William Shatner, Tom Welling, and Juliette Lewis. A Twilight reunion touched down for panels, signings, and memories. The event included opportunities for fans to meet the cast, take photos, and attend panels.

Booths and Brand Experiences

  • AMD had a standout presence with their latest gaming tech. Fans tested new GPUs and gaming rigs under slick lighting. Execution felt grounded but impressive.
  • Disney Consumer Products made its first-ever expo appearance in Toronto. Their booth provided real access to franchises and fan

favourites. There was a visible divide between Star Wars and Marvel that many fans crossed over. Think immersive product displays and playful activations.

  • Fans found photo ops with props from Star Wars and Marvel on the show floor, which I had to try my hand at a Princess Leia lightsaber. That lightsaber is on my wish list.
  • The horror crew behind something like The Conjuring brought a booth filled with genuine scares. Fans lined up well past the merchandise stalls, dared to step inside, and left sweaty. It delivered exactly what it promised.

Final Thoughts
Fan Expo Canada 2025 hit all the right notes. It balanced nostalgia, like Marty McFly’s return, with futuristic tech from AMD and fresh immersion via Disney’s debut booth. Celebrity moments delivered and the embrace of more diverse fan families gave the event a fresh heart.

AMD rigs, Disney magic, celebrity hugs, it was all here.
