Meet  Fenton Jagdeo.

He is the newest – and  youngest – member of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) board.

Jagdeo, 26.  who was born in Toronto to Guyanese parents ( no relation to former President Jagdeo, he says) was appointed to the ten-member board only last month.

A graduate of  the Richard Ivey School of Business, Jagdeo spent  more than five years ” between corporate strategy and strategy consulting.”

Before taking up his appointment with the TTC board, he was a member of the  board of the Toronto Public library.

Jagdeo who still takes  the TTC bus to work, brings diversity to the board which has been predominantly white.

He is only the third person of colour to serve as a member of the Commission after Frederick Langdon Hubbard in 1929-30 and more recently Michael Thompson,  a Toronto city councillor.

He told The Caribbean Camera that he believes that willingness to listen can help make travelling through Toronto better for everyone

“I’m not going to know all the answers and that’s why having conversations with everyone in Toronto is so crucial and so important, especially when it comes to making good decisions that impact everyone.”

Jagdeo is hoping  ” to help drive a sense of innovation that can help improve the TTC and futureproof it for years to come.”
