‘Free Yuhself’ Carnival GO bus ain’t that free

But Metrolinx is offering special deals on August holiday weekend

GO Bus dressed up for carnival

Free ride to and from the Grand Parade on a specially decorated Carnival GO Double Decker bus? You might think so if you see the newly decorated Carnival bus.

In big white on black letters written in some sort of Creole language, this Metrolinx GO bus urges Carnival revelers to “Free Yuhself.” It also says that riders are “Free to Celebrate, Free to Be You!” Don’t believe every word you read these days, though. Those bus words don’t actually say that you are free to ride on parade day and the transit company will expect you to bring your wallet with you and open it when you ride Go.

“Hop on board with GO Transit and immerse yourself in the vibrant festivities of the Toronto Caribbean Carnival!” writes GO Transit. The picture shows their new carnival bus wearing the carnival wrap in downtown Toronto.

Even if the message doesn’t mean your carnival costume gets you on the bus for free, Metrolinx does have special deals all August holiday weekend. They are offering a one-day $10 pass that gives riders unlimited travel for a single day. Additionally, for $15, you get unlimited travel over the Carnival weekend.

If GO Transit does come up with enhanced Jump Up Deals in the next couple of weeks, you won’t have to “Find Out For Yuhself” – the Caribbean Camera will let you know!
