The Caribbean Camera spoke with Ad’ria LaPierre, a seasoned section leader and future Queen of Carnival, about her exciting presentation for this year’s carnival with Tribal Carnival. Ad’ria, whose journey in the world of mas began at just three months old, shared her experiences, aspirations, and upcoming projects.
Ad’ria has been deeply involved in playing mas all her life. “I have been playing mas since I was 3 months old, so all my life!” she exclaimed. Her dedication and passion for carnival have grown over the years, leading her to take on the role of a section leader for the past eight years. This year, her section, PlayMasWithAdria™, is portraying Di Vinci for Tribal’s Art of Mas Showcase. “The name of my Female Individual costume for Toronto Junior Carnival King and Queen is called Acapella: Queen of The Opera,” she added.
Starting with just 20 children in her section, Ad’ria’s leadership has seen the number swell to 60 this year. Her commitment to the young masqueraders is evident in her efforts to make the experience special for them. “This year, all my masqueraders will be getting my new carnival accessories products to wear at the parade. My new products are called The Carnival Princess – Body Art. I have face and body jewels and also face and body tattoo stickers,” she said.

Beyond her carnival involvement, Ad’ria enjoys a variety of activities. “When I’m not involved in kiddies carnival’s mas here in Toronto or Trinidad, I love to dance, model, read and write books, and play games with my friends. We go to the movies together and organize days to have fun doing stuff,” she shared. Her zest for life is evident in her multifaceted interests and her definition of happiness. “Happiness to me is getting to travel and have adventures in different places and countries with my family, playing with friends, and being able to do all the things that I love that give me joy.”
Looking ahead, Ad’ria has exciting plans. “I’m getting ready to launch my new book soon. It’s called ‘Adria The World Traveler’ and it will be available on Amazon and local bookstores. I will also be modeling at African Fashion Week 2024 for Qweenfecy Clothing,” she revealed.

Ad’ria’s message for aspiring young masqueraders is simple yet profound: “I want kids to enjoy being a kid. Make sure you are passionate about whatever you want to do in life. Have fun, be kind, and work hard.”
