Detroit – Genesis G70 won the NACTOY Car of the Year Award at the recent 2019 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). The new sport sedan beat two strong competitors: the Honda Insight and Volvo S60.
Receiving the award on behalf of Genesis was Dominica-born, Erwin Raphael, General Manager of Genesis Motors USA of Fountain Valley, California.
Winning the Truck of the Year award was the Ram 1500 which was designed under the stewardship of Ralph Gilles, Head of Global Design for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) based in Auburn Hill, Michigan.
Both Raphael and Gilles who was born in the United States of Haitian parents, were former colleagues at Chrysler.
In an interview, they both described the NACTOY awards as “the Oscars in the automobile industry.”
The North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) awards were chosen by a panel of 54 jurors from print, online, radio and broadcast media across the U.S. and Canada..
Jurors voted on the finalists based on segment leadership, innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar. The process began in June 2018 by determining vehicle eligibility and included three rounds of voting.
