In a display of community spirit, nearly 40 employees from Sunwing Vacations Group and Sunwing Airlines recently joined forces with GlobalMedic for a humanitarian aid packing event aimed at supporting local communities in Jamaica affected by Hurricane Beryl this past July.

GlobalMedic, a registered Canadian charity, has been providing crisis relief services for over 20 years, working to enhance aid delivery efficiency during large-scale disasters worldwide. As hurricane season continues, organizations like GlobalMedic play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and recovery of impacted regions.

This collaboration is not a first for Sunwing and GlobalMedic; in 2018, they teamed up to send educational supplies, including books and backpacks, to students in Barbuda, emphasizing Sunwing’s dedication to supporting local communities.

Rahul Singh, Executive Director at GlobalMedic, added that they believe that getting the right aid to the right people at the right time is absolutely critical.

Khuram Malik, Vice President of Services and Airport Handling at Sunwing Airlines, expressed pride in their partnership with GlobalMedic. “Our collaboration allows us to make a tangible difference for those affected by disaster,” he said, highlighting the importance of giving back to the communities they serve.

Jamie Cross, Senior Emergency Programs Manager at GlobalMedic, echoed this sentiment, praising the volunteer efforts of Sunwing employees. “Their commitment ensures that families have access to essential resources, like clean drinking water,” he said, emphasizing the significance of timely aid delivery.

The event at GlobalMedic’s Etobicoke warehouse was a success, resulting in the assembly of 240 family emergency kits and 990 water filters. These kits included vital items such as hygiene products, a solar light, and a ceramic water purification unit, capable of providing clean drinking water for up to a year. In addition, 240 boxes were prepared for future aid shipments.

GlobalMedic has responded to 258 disasters across 84 countries, including major earthquakes in Ecuador, Haiti, Japan, and Nepal, showcasing its ongoing commitment to humanitarian efforts globally.
