In a bid to draw tourists to the hidden treasures of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Grenada has initiated the Carriacou Carnival Cooldown. This innovative tourism campaign aims to prolong the excitement of SpiceMas, Grenada’s renowned cultural festival, by encouraging visitors to unwind and explore the serene beauty of these sister isles.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Grenadines, participants of the Cooldown initiative will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the unspoiled surroundings. Whether it’s lounging on Sandy Island’s sun-kissed beaches or discovering the forthcoming underwater sculpture park at Jack-A-Dan, there’s an abundance of natural wonders awaiting exploration.

The primary objective of the campaign is to establish a lasting tradition that enhances the overall visitor experience following the annual SpiceMas festivities. Scheduled from August 14 to August 18, 2024, the Carnival Cooldown promises a tranquil escape after the carnival celebrations.

Tevin Andrews, Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, is optimistic about the campaign’s potential to showcase the tranquility and unique charm of the islands. Similarly, Randall Dolland, Chairman of the Grenada Tourism Authority, highlights the allure of arriacou and Petite Martinique as integral components of Grenada’s tourism landscape.

In addition to cultural enrichment, the Carnival Cooldown is expected to yield significant economic benefits for Grenada. By encouraging visitors to extend their stays, the initiative not only fosters a deeper appreciation for the islands’ serene beauty but also contributes to the local economy.

This initiative comes amidst a surge in tourist arrivals to Grenada, with a nearly 30 per cent increase in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year. With increased accessibility through additional flights during the festive season, Carriacou and Petite Martinique are poised to experience a surge in tourism, promising a prosperous future for the islands’ communities and economies.
