Guyana Jaguars and Jamaica Franchise secured victory in the opening round of the West Indies Cricket Board Professional Cricket League which ended last Monday.
Guyana Jaguars defeated Leeward Islands by an inning and 10 runs on the third day at the National Cricket Stadium in Guyana. Guyana scored 343 all out in their first innings with Narsingh Deonarine topscoring with an undefeated century (110). Anthony Bramble chipped in with 46 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul made 45. Gavin Tonge was four for 60.
Leeward Islands in reply were all out for 94. Anthony Martin made 25 and Orlando Peters scored 18. Ronsford Beaton, Veerasammy Permaul and Davendra Bishoo picked up three wickets each.
Leeward Islands following on were dismissed for 239. Jahmar Hamilon topscored with 74 and Gavin Tonge scored 49. Davendra Bishoo took four for 67. V. Permaul was two for 38 and Rayman Reifer two for 48.
Jamaica Franchise defeated Windward Islands Volcanoes by 13 runs also on day three at Sabina Park. Jamaica scored 208 and 161. Windward Island Volcanoes made 110 and 247.
The match between Barbdos Pride and Trinidad & Tobago Red Force ended in a draw at Queen”s Park Oval due to rain. Barbados Pride scored 360 all out with skipper Kraigg Brathwaite undefeated on 182 and wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich made 76., Marlon Richards took three for 51 and Imran Khan took three for 75.
Trinidad & Tobago Red Force in reply scored 96 all out with Yannic Cariah topscoring with 26. Jomel Warrican took four for 12 and Carlos Braithwaite took three for 13.
Trinidad & Tobago Red Force at the close were 213 for five with Evin Lewis topscoring with 61 and Yannick Ottley made 44. Kemar Roach took two for 46.
At the end of the first round, Guyana has secured 17 points, Jamaicxa 16, followed by Barbados eight. Trinidad & Tobago Red Force was at five. Windward Islands had three and Leeward Islands was at the bottom of the table with two points.
Round two of the four-day tournament continues this Friday with the following matches:
Guyana vs Windward Islands at the Guyana National Stadium; Leeward Islands vs Trinidad & Tobago Red Force at Warner Park and Barbados Pride vs Jamaica at Windward Sports Club.
