Guyanese man charged with murder of pregnant wife

A Guyanese man was arrested  on Saturday evening by police in the Regional Municipality of Durham, east of Toronto, and charged with the murder of his pregnant wife.

Nicholas Tyler Baig, 25. of  Pickering who was picked up by police in Markham, Ontario,was charged with second degree murder in the death of 27-year old  Arianna Goberdhan who was believed to have been nine months pregnant.

At about  9:45 p.m. on Friday,  Durham Police responded to a call about a domestic disturbance at a residence on Winville Road in Pickering

When officers arrived there, they discovered  Goberdhan’s body with “obvious signs of trauma”. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her unborn baby did not survive, according to police.

A friend of the couple said they were married last November.

Goberdhan was born in Canada to Trinidadian parents.

Baig who is now in custody after an unsuccessful  bail hearing,  is scheduled to be back in court  today.
