Hakeem Olajuwon joins surge into expanding Guyana market
A surge of overseas interest is reshaping one of Guyana’s newest residential corridors, where international investors are pouring capital into a large master-planned community on the East Bank. The TAJ DIAMOND project, created by United States based Coastal Rim Properties, has become a focal point for high end buyers and institutional firms seeking a foothold in a market many now view as one of the hemisphere’s most promising.

Among the latest arrivals is basketball Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, who has secured two luxury homes in the development after a year of exploratory visits to the country. His trips included meetings with President Irfaan Ali and members of Guyana’s sporting community, as he assessed opportunities in both real estate and the oil and gas sector.
“Guyana is a slam dunk,” Olajuwon said. “It is English speaking, a strong ally of the United States, the fastest growing country in the world, and its Government welcomes foreign investment. I am proud to be part of what Coastal Rim is building here.” He added that future joint ventures with Coastal Rim, in Guyana or abroad, are under discussion.
Another major commitment came from Gudo Investment Management of South Korea, partnered with United States based Gudo Partners. The firm has acquired multiple rental properties in the community, marking one of the earliest large scale institutional deployments in Guyana’s real estate landscape.
“Guyana is one of the most exciting emerging markets in the world, and Coastal Rim’s vision for TAJ DIAMOND stood out immediately,” said Gudo chairman Sung Hoon Baik. “Our investment reflects confidence in both the project and Guyana’s long term potential as a regional investment hub.”

Strong demand has lifted prices sharply. Initial early bird rates began at US$250,000, but current starting prices have risen to US$400,000, with further adjustments expected every one to two months. Nearly 50 per cent of the homes have been reserved. When complete, the community will offer 218 three storey residences with private garages, gated access, round the clock armed security, a clubhouse, pool, cinema, fitness centre, and a large retail and dining plaza anchored by Morton’s The Steakhouse. Buyers may opt into a fixed yield leaseback programme offering a return of 14 per cent.
Coastal Rim’s lead developer, Nicola Mola, called the recent acquisitions “a watershed moment for Guyana,” saying they signal a new level of international confidence in the country’s evolving property sector. Plans for an additional luxury condominium project, starting at US$100,000, are also moving forward.
Local consultant Rosh Khan said the scale of TAJ DIAMOND reflects growing expectations within the market. “Anyone who understands global markets can see that Guyana is the most strategic investment destination on the planet right now,” he said.
Coastal Rim, which has more than fifty years of experience in global development, says it intends to make Guyana a central base for high end residential and commercial expansion.
